Table to Table Newsletter December, 2006
Happy Holidays

Greetings,

As 2006 comes to a close, we proudly report that our goal of providing 4.25 million meals was not only met by mid-November, but we reached 4.5 million by the end of the month. We couldn't be more excited about these awe-inspiring results and we thank you for being a part of making it happen!

This fall we held two new and very successful fundraisers - an elegant luncheon and our first Bag a Lunch, Help a Bunch program - each raising over $40,000. We would like to thank all of our donors for their support of Table to Table's mission of providing fresh, nutritious meals to those in need. While the approaching holidays are a time to reflect on our own good fortune, remember that many in our area cannot afford basic necessities such as food and shelter. Thanks to your generous contributions, we at Table to Table will continue making a difference in our community where it is needed most.

Donor Focus: Palisades Financial

Palisades Financial, based in Fort Lee, NJ, is an investment banking and advisory firm specializing in real estate and middle market companies, with over $2 billion in transactions completed since its inception in 1995. Company founder William "Billy" Procida has been supporting Table to Table and attending events for years. Encouraged and "inspired" by our President, Claire Insalata Poulos, he became a member of the Board of Directors last year. The entrepreneurial spirit that sets the company apart from its competition is also reflected in its support of Table to Table. This year, Palisades Financial created a unique fundraising opportunity by hosting its annual holiday party to benefit Table to Table and inviting us to sell raffle tickets at the event itself. We raised awareness among Palisades Financial employees, as well as several thousand dollars to help feed the hungry this holiday season.

Recipient Focus: Hilltop Haven Shelter for Families
Established in 1990, Hilltop Haven Shelter for Families is one of only a few shelters in Passaic County accepting homeless women and their children 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Hilltop Haven provides daily meals, essential support and most importantly - a plan to secure affordable, permanent housing so families can quickly return to a self-sufficient life. Only five percent of residents become homeless again.

Monica Piccirillo, Program Director, is thankful for Table to Table's support and looks forward to the deliveries of fresh produce and meat, especially during the winter months. She says, "We really need to watch our budget and receiving the food allows us to spend dollars on things like heating oil and electricity."

Bag a Lunch, Help a Bunch program raises over $40,000!
Banks, real estate agencies, financial advisors, schools and hundreds of individuals throughout Northeast New Jersey joined together to support Table to Table's first-ever Bag a Lunch, Help a Bunch program, an imaginative one-day fundraising initiative. Participants donated the money that they'd have typically spent on lunch (many generously giving more!) to help ease the hunger in their communities. Sponsored by Whole Foods Market and North Jersey Media Group, this inaugural year was a resounding success!

Endowment Luncheon with Lynn Sherr
A magical afternoon luncheon in support of the Table to Table Endowment Campaign was hosted by Donna Walsh at her magnificent estate in Saddle River. Following an introduction by special guest and ABC-7 News anchor Lori Stokes, Emmy award-winning ABC News and 20/20 correspondent Lynn Sherr engaged in a heartfelt discussion about her recently published memoir, "Outside the Box." Guests enjoyed a delicious lunch, prepared by Chef Edward Lake of Chakra Restaurant, which was beautifully paired with exceptional wines from Carlo Russo's Wine and Spirit World. A delightful and enlightening afternoon was enjoyed by all in attendance.

Delight your friends and relatives with beautifully wrapped gifts while helping those in need. Once again, Table to Table has partnered with The Shops at Riverside in Hackensack and Bergen Health & Life Magazine to "Wrap Up Hunger" in Northeast New Jersey. From now through December 23rd, Table to Table will wrap gifts at the retail center, with all funds raised going directly to the organization's food rescue program. Volunteers are needed to wrap - shifts are available throughout the day and evening. Shoppers are encouraged to bring their gifts to be wrapped! For more information, call 201-444-5500.

Whole Foods Market Partners with Table to Table this Holiday Season!
In a true display of holiday spirit, Whole Foods Market donated 5% of the December 6th sales in its Ridgewood and Edgewater, NJ stores to Table to Table, raising nearly $7,000 to fight hunger right here in our own community.

Did You Know?

A steady job isn't a guarantee that you won't be hungry. In NJ, over 80,000 families and 60,000 single individuals with full or part time year-round work have incomes below the federal poverty level.
